Care Bears, Popples, and Maxell

Having had the pleasure of growing up in the 80s, I am fortunate to remember things like Care Bears, Popples, and Atari (my siblings and I were usually gifted game consoles a good year or two after everyone else had them and prices had dropped on Atari as soon as Nintendo reared its multi-functioning-controller head). Another brand reigning true amidst my 80s nostalgia — one which far-outlasted my beloved Popple and Atari — is that of Maxell.

I can remember tearing off the shrinkwrap from a fresh Maxell VHS tape like it was yesterday; popping that tape into the VCR to record my favorite shows with all the trust in the world that it would perform to the highest degree. This trust extended itself well into the 90s and 2000s, as I went through dozens upon dozens of blank Maxell CDs, recording music mixes that I am equally proud and ashamed of.

So when I was presented with the opportunity to design Maxell’s new line of data, headphone, and peripheral products, I was ecstatic. I was thrilled that the brand entrusted Bailey with the duty of keeping itself relevant to its consumers, and even more excited that kids and adults alike will be able to share in my nostalgia for the brand in years to come.

I think our new design helps retain the best of the Maxell brand (look for the “chair-man” in the MaxMusic line), while bringing a contemporary look that will grab the attention of consumers today. Check it out at http://www.baileygp.com/work/project/maxell-packaging.
