It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Especially when your team is in the Super Bowl (like mine)! Yes, I mean football season. From tailgating at home games, to the competitive spirit and excitement of the game — oh, do I love football and everything associated with it … including all the team branded tchotchkes.

The abundance of NFL branded merchandise you see everywhere further strengthens my belief that the NFL is one of the strongest brands around. From team logo’d tissue boxes to beer bottles, bird houses and, yes, even garden gnomes – you can find your team’s logo on pretty much anything.

Some may say this is not a successful way to strengthen brand equity. Will this dilute the NFL brand? My answer is NO. Fans love to see their team’s logo everywhere and anywhere – and will pay a premium for it. There are not many things that unite people of all ages, sexes or ethnicities like football does. NFL fans are the ultimate brand ambassadors, proudly sporting their team gear not only during the season but all year long. How many other brands can say they have as powerful an emotional connection with consumers as the NFL does? After all, advertisers pay top dollar to get their message to this loyal audience.

So I say, continue to make the team bibs, golf tees, shower curtains and bar stools, because we, the NFL fans, will continue to buy them.
